Commercial Pilot’s License

Commercial Pilot’s License

The Commercial Pilot’s License is required to get paid for the time that one is flying.  It is usually the last step towards becoming an airline pilot.

What is a CPL?

The CPL(A) is usually done in conjunction with a Multi-Engine Rating as well as an Instrument Rating.  However, the following information is provided for the standalone course.  For more information about how to acquire a CPL with IR and ME, please contact us and we will be more than happy to guide you.

Theoretical Knowledge

The theoretical knowledge for the CPL (A) is not required if the applicant is a holder of a frozen ATPL (A).  However, the CPL has to be completed within 3 years of the last exam of the ATPL (A).

Flight Training

There are the following minimums to fly for the issuance of a CPL (A):

• A minimum of 25 hours of flight instruction
• A minimum of 10 hours of instrument flying time, of which not more than 5 hours can be done in our FNPT 2 Simulator.
• A minimum of 5 hours of flight instruction in a complex aircraft capable of the carriage of at least 4 persons, and with a variable pitch propeller and retractable undercarriage, such as our Piper Seneca II.

However, please note that for the governing body to issue the license, the applicant must have at least 200 total hours.
