Instrument Rating.
 
The Instrument Rating allows the pilot to fly under Instrument Flight Rules (IFR), which is required for flights such as through cloud cover.  It is the next step for a lot of pilots who wish to further a career in aviation.  It is usually done in conjunction with the Commercial Pilot’s License.

PRE ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
 
• Private Pilot’s License
• At least 50 hours of cross country flying
• Class 2 Medical certificate with Instrument Rating allowances

THEORETICAL kNOWLEDGE.
  
At least 200 hours of ground theory will have to be completed.  However, if the applicant is a holder of a frozen ATPL, these hours are not required as the material would have been covered already, as long as the IR is completed by not more than 3 years after the last exam of the ATPL.

FLIGHT TRAINING.
  
The flight training can be done in one of three ways:

• In the case of a single-engine IR (A), 50 hours of instruction time are required.  35 of these hours can be conducted in our FNPT II simulator.
• In the case of a multi-engine IR (A), 55 hours of instruction time are required.  40 of these hours can be conducted in our FNPT II simulator
• In the case of someone who holds a single-engine IR (A), and a multi-engine type or class rating, wishing to obtain a multi-engine IR for the first time will need to conduct 5 hours of instruction time.  3 of these hours can be conducted in our FNPT II simulator.
