IR(R) Instrument Rating (Restricted)

While this rating can be added to an EASA licence, it only
applies in UK airspace and would normally only be held by UK
pilots. It is especially useful for occasional IFR flight in poor
weather and includes the Instrument Approach Procedures
albeit with higher recommended minima.
Our IR(R) course is only likely to be attractive if you are serious
about getting into instrument flying, using this as a first step
towards the full CBM-IR.

Pre-requisites
Applicants must hold a PPL with 25 hours after qualifying of
which 10 hours as PIC and 5 hours cross country.
A night rating is required if the IR(R) is to be valid at night.
There are no additional medical requirements.

Privileges
The privilege of the IR(R) is to fly under IFR and in IMC in UK
airspace. This applies to all classes of airspace except A, B
and C (thus excluding IFR airways) but does include
instrument approach procedures.

Theory
Course material is available for self study in a single book.
The IR(R) theory exam is included in the course price.

Course Breakdown
ACS Flight Training only offers this on a full-time or part-time
basis. The regulatory requirement is a 15 hour course of
instrument flight time under instruction which will typically take
10-14 days full time including theoretical knowledge revision
and written test. The course will be completed in a Piper
PA28-Warrior Aircraft.
The regulations require you to be trained for precision and non
precision approach. One approach type is signed off during
your course and the other is examined during your skill test.

Revalidation
