General

Gaining your Private Pilot Licence (PPL) is a fantastic achievement.  The course is structured with both practical and ground based study elements.  Flight training with our professional flight instructors at Scenic Air Tours North East, will guide you every step of the way and steer your training to ensure you complete all the required elements and pass your final licence skill test.

​At the end of the course you'll be able to apply for your European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) Private Pilot Licence.  This licence is valid throughout Europe so will allow you to fly abroad too!

Flight Training

Applicants for the PPL shall have completed at least 45 hours of flight instruction, which includes at least:

• 25 Hours of Dual Flight Instruction
• 10 Hours of supervised solo flight time, which includes at least 5 Hours of solo cross-country flight time. With at least 1 cross-country of at least 150nm, where you'll be expected to carry out 2 full stop landings at 2 different aerodromes from the aerodrome of departure.
• Remaining hours are made up of revision.

Ground Training

There are 9 theoretical knowledge subjects, which have associated exams.  There is course study material which will help prepare you for the exams.  Don't fear though.  Our instructors will help prepare you for the examinations and we even run evening classes and 1 week intensive courses so you can pass them all in one go.

PPL Skill Test

This is it, the time has come for you to take your Licence Skill Test (LST).  The LST is your time to show the flight examiner everything you've learned.  By this stage you'll be up to speed with checking the weather, the NOTAMS  (Notice to Airmen) and safely flying the aircraft through the skies.   The LST will last approximately 90 minutes, and once passed you can submit your paperwork to the Civil Aviation Authority. (CAA).

Dual Training Rates:

Our rate includes all pre and post flight briefings, and classroom planning with an instructor:

Piper Cherokee  -  PA28  -  4 Seat training aircraft   -  £170 per hour

Landing:

Piper Cherokee  -  PA28  -  4 Seat training aircraft   -  £9 at Durham Tees Valley Airport

Touch & Go:

Piper Cherokee  -  PA28  -  4 Seat training aircraft   -  £6 each

The duration of the course is the minimum hours required for this course.
