Electrical Wiring Interconnection Systems

To fully realise the objectives of this AMC, operators, holders of type certificates (TC), holders of supplemental type certificates (STC), maintenance organisations and persons performing modifications or repairs, will need to rethink their current approach to maintaining and modifying aeroplane wiring and systems.

This may require more than simply updating maintenance manuals and work cards and enhancing training. Maintenance personnel need to be aware that aeroplane EWIS should be maintained with the same level of intensity as any other system in the aeroplane.

The ED Decision has been in force since September 2008 and its purpose is to:

‘improve the airworthiness code for large aeroplanes and the requirements for continued airworthiness in the field of electrical wiring interconnection systems since failures in those systems have been identified as causal factors in several incidents and accidents involving large aeroplanes’.
