Light Aircraft Pilots Licence (LAPL)

The LAPL requires a minimum of 30 hours flight training, 6 of which will be spent solo.

On completion of the course you will again gain a licence valid for your lifetime, but the LAPL differs to the PPL as it does not contain a class rating with an expiry date. The LAPL has privileges built into the licence itself which you must keep valid by ensuring at least a certain minimum amount of flying is maintained. This means that you would not be able to add any further aircraft type or class ratings, such as a Multi-engine rating (MEP) to your licence. You will however be able to add non-aircraft ratings, such as the Night Rating, to your LAPL. It is also possible to upgrade the LAPL into a full PPL at a later date with one of our upgrade courses.

Medical Requirements
Whichever licence you choose to obtain, you will need to gain the appropriate medical certificate prior to flying solo. You may start the course before you gain a medical, although it is sensible to arrange a medical as soon as possible. A list of CAA approved doctors is available upon request.

Ground Examinations
The theoretical knowledge training course for both PPL and LAPL licences involves ground examinations in the following nine subjects:

Air Law
Operational Procedures
Communications
Meteorology
Navigation
Flight Performance and Planning
Aircraft General Knowledge
Principles of Flight
Human Performance and Limitations
The examinations are all multiple choice and are easily passed with a little time and thought applied to each subject. All examinations are carried out in-house with our very own examiner.
