TAILWHEEL TRAINING

Whether you want to earn a tailwheel endorsement or simply want to improve your handling skills, AFTA are ready to open new horizons.

COURSE GOAL
We use the Super Decathlon as our training aircraft. This is a simple, rugged machine – ideal for beginners and advanced pilots alike. The Decathlon provides “stick and rudder” flying at it’s best. Tailwheel training will make you a more instinctive pilot, no matter how much time and experience you have. New pilots or old professionals all benefit from flying the Decathlon perfecting your tri-gear landings and general handling.

COURSE SYLLABUS
5 hours on Super Decathlon
Each flight will last around 1 hour with a thorough brief and debrief.
The focus is on instinctive flying techniques. You will add a new dimension to your flying ability as you practice slow flying, three wheel landings, crosswind landings, slips to a landing, power off approaches and much more.
Your tailwheel training will emphasise techniques that will make all of your flying easier, safer and more enjoyable.
Course Fee €1370

REQUIREMENTS:
Experienced Licensed Pilot
Upset Prevention and Recovery Training (UPRT)
The aim of stall awareness and spin training is to develop a pilot’s understanding in the area of high angle of attack flying and to practice the proper actions to take to avoid inadvertent stalls and spins.
The understanding and basic actions to prevent and to recover from these potentially hazardous situations are the same regardless of the aircraft you fly. Many major airlines now insist that their pilots complete such advanced handling courses as part of their basic training.
